What about food!

Instead of making a whole 3 weeks sum up into a day by day or week by week entry, I will just choose a theme for each post.

And, of course, my first theme is about food. Do I have to explain how Korean food is good, refine and healthy? Of course, there is the usual western junk food but there is the Korean / Asian one too. And I have to admit instant noodles among others have that sexy and convenient presence to make your life easy when you are too lazy to go out or cook.

No need to say I didn't go to Korea to feed myself with instant noodles. I was looking for seafood, kimchi, and other delicacies. And I have to admit I got what I wanted except for seafood (I could have more...).

The most unusual meal that I had was the raw fermented crab. Crabs are left for 3 days in a jar with soy sauce and then served with herbs, rice and other banchan (side dishes). It is good but the taste is strong and after a few bites I have to declare defeat.

Let me talk about banchan a bit: wherever you eat, you will always have side dishes. The simplest one will be composed of kimchi, some green leaves then you will have rice, soup etc for the most elaborated ones. They are part of the food culture in Korea unlike in China or Japan where it is not developed as much to side dishes as I remember.

Trough out the food you can have a glimpse of the soul of a country, it's culture and codes. Here are samples of what we have eaten and you can check the album for the rest of it.
